Studio Policy and Guidelines

Course Offerings

Private Lessons

Individual lessons meet at an appointed weekly 30-minute time.  Students will gain proficiency in performance and technique and learn music theory, sight-reading and memorization; explore the various style periods in music history and learn about composers and their lives; and follow a traditional curriculum of standard musical literature while exploring musical genres outside the customary pedagogical canon.  Private lessons meet 42 weeks each calendar year.

Beginner Piano Classes

Piano 101 introduces adults and teens with little or no piano experience to the basics of piano in a no-pressure environment.  The eight-week class meets 45 minutes weekly at Leithold Music.  Students build their musical repertoire through instruction in technique and theory and have the benefit of learning from the teacher as well as growing and networking with their peers.   Students may follow completion of beginner class with Piano 102 or private lessons.

Special Courses

Periodically, I offer beginner ukulele classes (Ukulele 101) for all ages and summer day camps that offer kids opportunities to explore special topics in music theory and music history.  Please contact me if you are interested in one of these special courses.

Tuition

Your tuition payment reserves your lesson time, covers administrative and recital expenses and teacher prep time.  All tuition payments are due in advance to ensure your spot in my lesson schedule.  Please contact me for tuition rates.

Commitment

As the teacher, I commit to offering the best in musical instruction through an individualized course of study designed specifically for each student.  I am committed to providing a positive environment in which the student can learn and grow.

If the student is under 18, the parent/guardian must commit to getting the student to lessons promptly and paying tuition on time.  The parent/guardian should also keep in regular contact with the teacher to ensure the student’s success at lessons.

Practice is the most important part of the student’s commitment – whatever his/her age. Students are expected to finish weekly assignments by our next lesson by practicing regularly at least 5 times a week.  I reserve the right to dismiss a student who is not making progress due to lack of practice.

Scheduling

The time you reserve for your weekly lesson is permanent. If you need to change your permanent time, please let me know as much in advance as possible.

Because my teaching schedule is full, makeup lessons are difficult to arrange.  If you need to cancel a lesson due to illness, weather, a school function or vacation and wish to arrange a makeup lesson, please contact me as soon as possible so I can put you on a waiting list.  Makeup lessons are not guaranteed.

Because your monthly tuition reserves a specific spot in my schedule, your monthly tuition fee does not change if you miss a lesson.

If I ever need to cancel a lesson, your lesson will be rescheduled. You will never pay for lessons missed due to my absence.

Special Opportunities

Public performances are a vital component of musical studies. Not only do they give the student practical experience as a musician, but they also help build confidence as a performer and expose students to what peers are learning. Participation in public performances is not mandatory, but most students find the opportunity enjoyable.

Recitals

I schedule two studio recitals each year, one during the Christmas season and one near the end of the school year. Special recitals and performances sponsored by the La Crosse Area Music Teachers Association (LAMTA), workshops and master classes are also open to my students.

WMTA Auditions

This event is sponsored by the Wisconsin Music Teachers Association (WMTA) and the La Crosse Area Music Teachers Association (LAMTA) and is usually held in March at Viterbo University in La Crosse. Students in grades 1-12 and adults are eligible to participate.

Departure

If you wish to discontinue lessons, I require a four-week notice. Tuition paid for any remaining time will not be refunded.
